Nicholson Speedway Notice


 

The Nicholson Speedway family is saddened to report the passing of George L. Starkey. There will be a memorial service for George Starkey on the afternoon of Saturday, June 23rd (in the Mount Airy area). The family hopes that his many friends will join them to celebrate George's life and accomplishments. We will be bringing you additional information as it becomes available. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends, and the entire karting community whose life he touched.

George L. Starkey, 55, of Mount Airy, died suddenly on May 23, 2007 at his home. He was the spouse of Nancy Cox Starkey.

 

He was born June 23, 1951, in Barnesville, the son of the late Joseph N. Starkey III and the late Rebecca Price Starkey.

 

Mr. Starkey was currently employed by Finish Master Inc. as a Technical Support Representative in Gaithersburg. He was highly regarded as an Automobile Refinisher for over 20 years. He was recently active in Drag Racing with friend and neighbor Tony Tull and Go-Kart racing with friend Frank Mills. He was very supportive of his wife's interest in working with Border Collies.

Surviving in addition to his wife are sisters Joyce Williams of Gaithersburg, Ellen Poteat of Mount Airy and Linda Frazier of Merritt Island, Fla.; brothers, Joseph N. Starkey IV of Mount Airy and David Starkey of Severn. He was preceded in death by his sister, Jane Marie Day.

Memorial service date will be determined in the near future. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association, Memorials and Tributes Processing Center, P.O. Box 5216 Glen Allen, VA 23058. Online condolences may be made at www.burrier-queen.com.
